The response to Covid around the world has been highly politicised. This was evident early on with the hostility towards Sweden for not having mandated lockdowns. In Sweden people were encouraged to work from home if they could, and schools were kept open. As someone on Twitter pointed out: First rule of Covid club, you can’t talk about Sweden.
The number of Covid deaths in Sweden was higher than its Scandinavian neighbours but lower than much of Europe. Covid deaths in Sweden were concentrated in people aged in their 80s and 90s and excess deaths were among the lowest in Europe.
