Starts 16 February at the Workers Educational Association, 59 Gloucester Street, Christchurch, 10am-11am, 5 Saturdays, $19
This course will focus on the movement towards democracy in Iran since 1906 when the first constitution was introduced. Since then the democratic movement has suffered various setbacks under the excuse of building the state or providing security and prosperity. Since 1979, authoritarianism has been justified by religious ideology. To provide an understanding of Iran today, mention will also be made of the country’s history, culture, politics and society.
